Abstract

The family system is a rising concern in society. As we know that family system is the backbone and structural unit of society. The purpose of this study is to investigate the pre-Islamic family system and the Nikah system in Arab society. Using cross-sectional analysis, this study analyzed those norms and rituals which were in practice in an era of pre-Islamic Arab Society. The first part deals with the maltreatment of women in Arab society. It throws light on the conservative mindset of pre-Islamic Arab people about women. It also shows the patriarchal aspect of that society. The second part of the article deals with the concept of Nikah in Arab Society. This part elaborates on different types of Nikah as well. The study definitively answers the question regarding family systems and the transmission of Arab society’s family system to the Nikah system.
