Abstract

The curriculum taught in the traditional religious schools of the subcontinent is known as Dar-e-Nizami. Its founder was Mullah Nizam-ud-din (1748), who developed a new curriculum for the educational institutions of the subcontinent of that time and tried to include all the subjects according to the needs and priorities of the time. In this course outline of the madrassa education system about forty books were taught in thirteen subjects. Having a religious basis and being free of any expenses, it has been recommended as a popular education system in the subcontinent. The world’s educational history shows that all types of curriculums need amendments with the passage of time according to the needs of the day. In this regards many Muslim thinkers of the subcontinent have given their theories to change this Madrassa Curriculum of traditional education to meet the needs of the time. This article discusses the above-mentioned theories and their application. The following issues will be investigated in this study:

  • What are the differences between the old and modern curriculum of the Darse-e-Nizami?
  • The needs and importance of teaching Darse-e-Nizami curriculum
  • Subcontinental thinkers’ opinion for changing the curriculum of the Madrassa education system “Dars-e-Nizami”.
  • Current needs and Dars-e-Nizami (Determinations of priorities)
