This research comprises of the principles of exegesis according to Sheikh Amin Ahsan Islahi – may Allah have mercy upon him -. There is no doubt that the Holy Quran is a book of guidance and we desperately need to understand it to receive His guidance. Many Arab and non-Arab scholars have tried to interpret the Holy Quran and have chosen a variety of methodologies and specific principles so that people know Allah’s commands and prohibitions. Among these scholars is Sheikh Amin Ahsan Islahi who interpreted the Holy Qur’an in a new way and chose definite and indefinite principles for the interpretation of the Book of Allah. What are the principles that Sheikh Islahi focused on? What are the definite and indefinite principles according to him? What are the methods that he chose to explain the meanings, rulings and wisdom of the Qur’an? Is he appreciated or blamed for those principles? According to these questions, the researcher will answer them in a critical analytical study based on traditional and rational evidence.
