Abstract

Al-Suyyūti was born on October 3, 1445 AD (1 Rajab 849 AH) in Cairo, Egypt. His mother was Circassian and his father has a Persian origin. According to al-Suyyūti, his ancestors came from al-Khudayriyya to Baghdad. His family moved to al-suyyūt in Mamluk Egypt, that’s why his nisbah was “Al-Suyyūti”.

At the age of six, his father died, then his father’s sufi friend Kamal ud Din bin Hammam took him into his custody who was Qazi at that time. Al-Suyyūti studied Shafi and Hanafi jurisprudence (fiqh), traditions (hadith), exegesis (tafsir), theology, history, rhetoric, philosophy, philology, arithmetic, timekeeping (miqat) and medicine. He started teaching Shafi jurisprudence at the age of eighteen in the same mosque where his father taught. In 1486, Sultan Qaitbay appointed him “Shaykh” at the Khanqah of Baybars II, a Sufi lodge. He was a Sufi of the Shadhili order.

Allama Al-Suyyūti wrote many books in almost all fields of science of his time. There are many sayings about the count of his books, Allama Sayyuti told this count at about three hundred. Among his books “al-Iklīl fi Isṯinbāt al-Tanzīl” is an exegesis of Quranic Verses of Ahkaam.

In this commentary, Allama has briefly examined and deduced the rules of jurisprudence according to the Shafi’i school of thought, but from time to time he has also mentioned other famous schools of jurisprudence.

As Surah Al-Ma’ida is the last Surah in terms of revelation, its verses are firm and abrogated for other rules. That is, the verses of this Surah have not been abrogated by the verses of any other Surah.

In this Surah, Allama has discussed jurisprudence on many topics, but I have presented only a few topics in this article as an example so that a sample of this interpretation of Allama may be presented to the scholars.
